Entirely Awful

Posted by MeInDtown on 11/25/2008

Our experience at the Mesh was absolutely wretched. The service started out poorly as did the seating arrangements. Plan on eating dinner with everyone else around you, at least on a weekend. The wine was so awful, we did not finish it. The waitress was about as rude as they come. Apparently, we did not do a good enough job making her feel important. The food was the worst part. I have never had a worse filet (or more overpriced). They actually put steak sauce on filet. The New York Strip was lacking also. Mesh claims their food can be cut with a butter knife. That is most definitely not the case. Both steaks were tougher than any I've ever had. The waitress was not happy that we did request steak knives. She was also bothered by the fact that I did not want asparagus (or anything to replace it) since she made a point to tell me she needed to write down "all my special instructions." When did "no asparagus please" become "all these special instructions?" You should also be prepared to eat your dinner on the waitress' schedule, not your own. She never came back to check on the meals. Apparently it made no difference that we didn't eat the steaks. We were asked by someone else how dinner was, told him it was awfule. He was supposedly getting a manager. Thankfully, the manager never showed up as we mostly just wanted to get out of there. In the end there were three people (host, busser, and bartender) who asked us about dinner. We told them all the same thing. None responded. We will certainly not return as they clearly had no interest in improving upon their mistakes. This was a horrible experience at a massively overrated and overpriced restaurant.

One of the top restaurants in the greater Cincinnati area.

Have been here half a dozen times at least. They are consistently excellent. Service is top-notch, and the food is fabulous. They change the menu seasonally but some dishes seem to remain on the menu year-round. The crab trifecta appetizer is always fantastic, as is the house salad with Sturkey's famous salad dressing. The lamb chops and surf & turf were both excellent, and the Bailey's chocolate cheesecake is to die for. The wine list is also top-notch. We tend to choose the more obscure wines and they always have what we order, which has been a problem for us at other restaurants.

what a nightmare

Everything from the service to the food was so disappointing. I had high hopes for this establishment located in booming west chester. Unfortunately, the very young man in charge of the front desk told my husband and I that we had to wait at least 30 minutes for our 8pm reservation. Then we were sat at the tiniest of tables in the back of the restaurant, crammed between an old couple with very strong perfume and a very overweight couple who could barely fit on the bench. I had a spinach salad that was very much just a huge pile of spinach on the plate. Our crab appetizer was good enough, but my tuna was overcooked and over seasoned. My husbands salmon was also oversalted. Our server was very busy, which meant very slow, and we didn't leave until 10:30. On top of that, the food does not sit well in the stomach. Neither of us got outright sick, but it's clear that the food did not digest properly. I don't mean to be a snobbish restaurant goer, but I've seen Jean-Robert do it much much better.
